Professor Suzanne Rab is an independent barrister at Serle Court Chambers.
Suzanne is a mediator accredited by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), the Civil Mediation Council (CMC) and the International Mediation Institute (IMI). Suzanne has over two decades of dispute resolution experience acting as lead-mediator, subject-matter expert co-mediator and counsel.
Having practiced as a solicitor for 15 years, Suzanne was called to the bar of England and Wales in 2013. She is skilled in EU law, regulatory and competition law matters, with a practice that focusses particularly on the interface between competition law, trade and economic regulation. She has advised governments, regulators and businesses across the regulated sectors including the communications, energy, financial services, healthcare / pharmaceuticals, TMT, transportation and water sectors.
As a solicitor in private practice, Suzanne held positions at magic circle and leading international antitrust practices, including as a partner with a leading US dispute resolution practice. She was also a director at PricewaterhouseCoopers, working within its strategy, economics and forensics teams.
Suzanne is understanding of the needs of the parties and aware of the opportunities to create value through a settlement process. She will work with parties and their advisors to tailor a process to facilitate resolution of their dispute.
Suzanne also advises governments and regulators on the design and implementation of dispute resolution policy and procedures including mediation and arbitration in competition law and economic regulatory matters. She has also supported the negotiation of Memoranda of Understanding between the UK and third countries as part of Brexit.
Suzanne maintains an active academic practice concurrently with her barrister practice. She is Professor of Commercial Law and holds the Practice Chair at Brunel University, a law lecturer at Oxford University and a Visiting Professor at Imperial College, London.
Suzanne has designed and leads the delivery of a number of professional skills and dispute resolution training courses including on mediation, advocacy and negotiation. Over the last 3 years she has led mediation and dispute resolution training programmes for over 100 professionals.
Suzanne publishes widely on comparative law and dispute resolution. She is the author of “Indian Competition Law, and International Perspective”, co-author of “Media Ownership and Control: Law, Economics and Policy in an Indian and International Context” and “Hong Kong Competition Law”, and a contributor to “Cross-Border Copyright Licensing, Law and Practice”.
